Hot Olympics

THE OLYMPICS START TOMORROW NIGHT!!! THEY START TOMORROW NIGHT!!! I'M EXCITED!!! CAN YOU TELL???

I LOVE the Olympics. I prefer the Winter Olympics because, well, Canada does MUCH MUCH better at the Winter Olympics than the summer ones, understandably, but really, I love the Olympics PERIOD. *giddy*

So in honour of the Olympics, for the next two weeks we'll be doing things a little differently here at Hispanic Time. Instead of our weekly "Who Would You Rather?" we're going to do what we did two years ago during the World Cup (holyshitit'sbeentwoyearsalready?!?!) We're going to do an eye candy competition, THIS TIME featuring the hottest athletes of the Olympics. And I'm posting this the day before the Olympics instead of the day of to give you just that much more time to think about your nominations.

Now, unlike the footballers, Olympic athletes are not always so well known, so we'll be taking almost the full two weeks to nominate hotties - you will need that time to see all the people from all the countries, you know? Happens every Olympics (with me, anyway) - I'll be watching some event and be all "OH MY GOD, WHO THE HELL IS THAT?!?!??!" and VOILA, instant crush. So yeah, we'll close the nominations a couple of days before the closing ceremonies, and we'll take those remaining days to vote. The winners will be announced around the same time as the closing ceremonies.

ONE MORE THING - YOUR NOMINATIONS HAVE TO BE OLYMPIANS COMPETING IN THE 2008 OLYMPICS. YOU CANNOT NOMINATE FORMER OLYMPIANS.

As for my first nomination, for some reason I always end up finding the rowers/kayakers/canoers the hottest, and my first nomination is, surprise surprise, a kayaker. His name is Adam van Koeverden and he is HOOOOOOOOOOT (<<< say that in "heavenly clouds opening in the sky" voice.) He is also the gentleman in the photo collage above. He won a gold and a bronze in the 2004 Athens Olympics, and he is Canada's flag bearer for the opening ceremonies. He also went to the same university as me (not that that matters, but I'm a proud alumna.) And I lurve him.

My second nomination is actually two people but they're twins so I'm treating them as one - Bia and Branca Feres, twin Brazilian synchronized swimmers. SWEET JEBUS are these two ever hot. I'd never heard of them until a couple of days ago, but something tells me after these Olympics most of us will know who they are...it's just a feeling I have...

For my third and final-for-now nomination, I return to the Canadians and nominate diver Alexandre Despatie. I know some of you are already familiar with Alexandre's work *cough PRICO cough* For those who aren't, as I say Alex is a diver, and has won a ton of World titles, but only one Olympic medal, a silver at Athens. I'm hoping for some better results this time around, and I'M REALLY hoping to see more of this type of thing. Or maybe this. And maybe throw in a little bit of this.

ANYWAY as you guys know I love my athletes (after all, I'm MARRIED to one. So effin' what if he doesn't know it, IT DOESN'T CHANGE ANYTHING IN THE EYES OF THE LORD...) *ahem* And I also love my sports. So the Olympics is like mecca to me (even though I generally try to boycott all things China, which is quite difficult when 99% of the products available to me are made there...) Anyway I anticipate a lot of fun, a lot of lust, and a lot of tears (I blubber like a baby watching the Olympics, FYI) over the next almost-two-weeks.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

P.S. CHECK THIS OUT - I honestly thought it was a joke!!! But it isn't!!! O_o

P.P.S. YOU CAN STILL do your voting for this round of Who Would You Rather (Lily vs Chiaki) - I'll announce the winner on Sunday as usual, and we'll start up the next round afer the Olympics.

P.P.P.S. PLEASE MAKE AN EFFORT TO NOMINATE PEOPLE FROM COUNTRIES OTHER THAN YOUR OWN. That should get easier as the Olympics go on and you actually SEE the athletes from other countries. DO NOT make me make a rule that come voting time you have to vote for someone NOT from YOUR country. DON'T MAKE ME DO IT, I'LL DO IT! *brandishes rolling pin*
